If you want a clear track go early on a weekday. I was alone on the Monza track and the Yokohama track's sole karts were a mother and daughter working out their holiday angst. The disadvantage of going early is that everything is cold. The tires, the engine and track surface were all well below peak operating temperature.
Being alone on the track I decided to try something from the book I'm reading. Instead of flailing through every lap trying for that last tenth of a second, I tried for consistency. The first half of the session I spent getting up to speed, then settled in to some nice even times. I did four laps at exactly the same time, 32.43, and three more laps within .05 seconds of that. Not bad.
