July 2000
- Sat Jul 1 - Mock Cafe
- I am so out of practice. It's been two weeks since I did a set and it
showed. I had some good high spots, but no flow. I appreciate the
compliments that I got from the other comedians. It means alot to me.
My goal for July is to do at least two shows a week.
- Thu Jul 6 - Brainwash
- Had a good set despite the very small audience. I was video-taping so
I did older material which I knew would get a laugh. After the show I
realized that for the first time I really do have material that i know
will get a laugh. There will always be audiences that don't respond to
certain things, but as long as I'm up for the show, this material should
work. The problem is that I don't enjoy doing old/safe material. My high
on stage comes from when I'm out on a limb. While I do truly love the
sound of laughter, if I'm doing my stock material it seems like I'm not
really earning those laughs.
- Fri Jul 7 - Video Editing
- I went around the Brainwash before the show and asked all the
comedians why they did comedy. I got a wide range of answers. I want to
thank everyone for their help. I'll put the video on-line sometime this
weekend.
- Sat Jul 8 - Mock Cafe
- Ragged set with some good high spots tonight. As I was running up to
the stage I heard someone in the audience say, "This guy's funny." It
feels so good to hear that. So I tried some new jokes. Some worked, some
didn't. Ended the set on an ad-lib that went over great. I can't remember
what I said, but people laughed. Fortunately I have it on tape.
Talked for a while with another comedian about how our careers are going
and stuff. It helps to know I'm not the only one going through this shit.
- Sat Jul 22 - Mock Cafe
- Had a very good set. Did mostly old material but it went very well.
Got some good comments from some other comedians afterwards.
- Sat Jul 29 - Mock Cafe
- Had one beer to many before the show. My timing was shot.
