Boulders Cafe - 6/02/01
Learning stuff fast. This was the first show at Boulder's that I put together. I never knew there was so little I knew about putting a show together. It went well. The audiences had a very good time. The comedians all did a great job. One thing I have learned is that as a booker, I am booking the people that get in my face about getting booked. As a comedian I never did this because I was afraid of making a nuisance of myself. But it's not like that. I find myself responding to the comedians that ask me about sets. Strange point of view.

Mock Cafe - 6/09/01
Real good set tonight. I had lots of fun stuff to talk about. I was also able to ignore one of my stronger inner critics. See there are lots of things that strike me funny, that most people wouldn't catch. This is what most observational comedians do, but I have this little voice in my head that tells me that the audience won't get why it's funny. So I end up doing way too much set up. Ruins the rhythm. I still did a bit too much setup, but not as bad as usual, and I wound up ad-libbing several punchlines. Fun stuff.

Mock Cafe - 6/16/01
Fun set. I had some really weird ad-libs tonight. My brain spit out a premise and I had no idea where to take it. So I turned it into a dick joke. It worked.

And on the booking front, things are going well. I've a couple of private party and corporate gigs that I'm hooking comedians up for. This is fun.

Mock Cafe - 6/23/01
Not so good tonight. Didn't have anything really prepared. I spent most of the week on fairly heavy drugs to clean up a sinus infection. I also fell into a trap I put myself into on occasion. I had something that was bothering me. Tonight it was excessive political correctness. So I talk about how bad it is, but I didn't have any really funny examples, so I didn't get the audience on my side. Whenever I consciously try to have a message, I'm never as funny.

On the booking front; I want to thank several comedians for understanding why I don't book them for the show in San Leandro. It's not that I don't think they're funny. They're just not right for the room.
