Put a story in the mail today. It's the first story I've submitted anywhere in a long time. It felt really good. For me submitting a story is like telling a joke for the first time. The difference is that the story has gone through many rewrites before anyone reads it. So the comedy pendulum continues to swing down. I heard from a booker this week that I'm too old to be an opening act. "The gray hair will put people off." He said. Cool.
As a Yoko Ono impersonator once said, The dream is over.
I did not make it to the finals alas alack. I had
much fun though. My throat was a little sub-par so I couldn't manage the Power Team bit, but did most of my standard A
material. Many funny people did many funny sets. The finals are going to be a killer show.
So what's with the faux Ono quote you ask. Nothing new. The pendulum swings wide. Far wider than it has swung before. The comedy, and more importantly my need to be on stage, is waning rapidly and severely. On the other hand my writing has exploded. I'm working on four stories at once. Writing a bit of each every night. The inner censors have left me for now. I wish I could say for good, but who knows. One story that I'm writing is the most "me" of anything I've done before. I'm not sure if it's fit for human consumption. We'll see. It doesn't really matter. Some times the story is just for me.
Don't be fooled though. I will always do comedy. It's in my blood. The Stage. The audience. And there are signs of a major comedy milestone for me coming in March. Beware evil doers where ever you are!
After several weeks of struggle and experimentation I finally have my body back under control. Bad allergies and asthma left me coughing and out of breath. The inhaler I use for asthma attacks makes me restless and unable to sleep. Lack of sleep has the byproduct of lack of creative energy. Hence the dirth of entries in this journal. Don't worry, you didn't miss anything. Now I'm back on an even keel and will report shortly on the confused progress of the story I mentioned in my 12/9 entry.
