February 99

Sat Feb 6 - Java N More
Odd set. Not much preparation, but I had a lot to talk about. It was more of a rant than a set. Strange interaction with the audience which I'll explain more in the next entry.

Sat Feb 6 - Mock Cafe
Much tighter set then Java N More, but had some problems. One of which was the audience. At both shows I felt no real connection with the audience, and in both places it seemed that the audience wasn't there to laugh at some stand-up comedian. Whether this is true or not isn't important right now. What is important is that I am finally developing enough ego that I can blame the audience for a bad set. This may sound weird, but in order to really be a success at comedy, you have to have complete faith in yourself on stage. To believe you can do no wrong. Blaming the audience is usually a defense mechanism, to protect that ego. Although sometimes there is nothing any comedian could do to get certain audiences to laugh. Whether this is true about the audiences last night, I don't know, I wasn't an objective observer. This is uncomfortable territory for me. All my life I've avoided letting my ego loose. I don't find it particularly attractive. It's not really that I'm developing an ego out of nowhere. It's just that in the past I've suppressed these feelings.

Sun Feb 21 - The end of a black hole
OK no excuses. I just couldn't get it together. Things happen and things don't happen. I'm aiming to do the Luggage Store on Tuesday. I'm writing a bunch of new material.

Sun Feb 28 - Still no comedy
OK here's the story. My wife and I are buying house. This endeavor is taking up a whole lot of time. Also, my parents are coming to visit for two weeks, so we've been preparing for that as well. Then I had the flu. On the other hand I'm working on a whole slew of new material. I'm not sure when I'll be out again. But I'll keep you all informed.
